Didier Drogba Becomes First Footballer Ever To Play In A Club He Owns

Former Chelsea playmaker and ex-captain of the Ivory Coast national team, Didier Drogba is an Ivorian player who has awed us in many ways than one has made history as he becomes the first football player to play in a club he owns.

There have been player-managers but this is certainly a first. The skillful player had turned down offers from big clubs in England, China, Brazil, and Mexico. His reason for not going back to England is that he couldn’t play for any other club there except Chelsea.

As he becomes a player and co-owner at Phoenix Rising FC, he hopes to build on Americans’ growing interest in football and to guide the club into America’s Major League Soccer by 2020.

Drogba has revealed that he spoke many times with Russian football entrepreneur, Roman Abramovich, and the billionaire is supportive.
