US-Born NASA Scientist Detained At US Border Until He Unlocks His Phone


                         

Sidd Bikkannavar, a US-born scientist was detained at US border by members of US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) when he wanted to enter the US. Sidd was not allowed to enter until he unlocked his work phone.The phone was collected and unlocked to enable them copy the data on his phone, he was not released until all data were copied.

Sidd lives in US and works with NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), he was detained by the Customs on January 30th  when he was returning from Chile.

Side enrolled in CBP's Global Entry programmer which allows participants who have undergone a background check to speed up their entry into the US. According to him, he had not visited any of the Muslim countries affected by Donald Trump's travel ban.
